Field Operations

The Field Operation Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of
the district’s delivery system. The delivery system consists of 52 miles of
pipeline ranging from 42 inch to 10 inch pipe size. This system is used to
transport raw water from the lake to the district’s treatment plant, City of
Early’s treatment plant, and approximately 5000 acres of irrigation land. Most
of the irrigation is done by flooding, some is done by a drip system, and others
by pivot system. The department also controls the irrigation. Customers sign a
contract for how many acre feet of water they will need for the year. This
department is responsible for starting and stopping the flow of water, making
sure there is no loss of water, the amount of the contract, and the times when a
customer can irrigate.  In addition to the delivery system the field
operation department also assists the Lake Patrol, treatment plant, and the
office with maintenance needs. The department also maintains district facilities
including buildings, spillway, dam, reservoirs, roads, right of ways, and pump
stations at the lake.  If you have any questions or concerns fill free to
contact me.

This department inspects and monitors the condition of the spillway every 6
months for cracks, erosion, and shifts in the ground. If there are any problems
we can address the issues before they become major.
There are 7 laterals that
come off the main pipeline.  These laterals were installed in the 1940s.
The laterals were made with concrete pipe.  Due to the age of the pipe,
expanding and contracting of the ground, the department stays busy with
repairing leaks.
